Features

Everything a SPHE department actually needs

From a student's first journal entry to the coordinator's end-of-year board report — every step is covered.

📝

AI-scored reflections

Students write, Skilly scores against the 5-level rubric with warm formative feedback. Teachers keep the final say with one-click review and edit.

🚨

Wellbeing alerts

Anxiety, bullying, self-harm, abuse and low-mood signals raised automatically. High-severity concerns email the safeguarding team straight away; lower-severity ones are logged for same-day review. Schools choose whether out-of-hours alerts page immediately or queue to the next school morning.

🫀

Daily Pulse & Tutor Time

Students check in with a mood in 10 seconds each morning. Tutors see a whole-class mood snapshot plus early warnings when a student has been low for several days — with private pastoral notes built in.

📅

Tutoring (Wellbeing) Programme

Coordinator publishes a 33-week tutor-time plan ONCE. Each morning the cron pushes today's reflective prompt into every assigned pupil's diary; tutors run a 15-min session and tick delivered. Prompts are cycle-scaffolded — Junior, TY and Senior voices per week — in English and Irish. Evidence rolls up to DEIS and the 400-hour clock automatically.

Learning Profiles — built-in differentiation

One click turns on scaffolded support for any student: autism-friendly, dyslexia-friendly or ADHD presets. Sentence starters, step indicator, adapted AI rubric, reduced motion — same curriculum, adapted delivery.

🌍

Bilingual support for EAL newcomers

Set a pupil's home language and they see each task in English and their own language, write in either, and get feedback in both. Teachers read everything in English. Scoring and safeguarding always run on what the pupil actually wrote — never a translation.

📊

Wellbeing indicators

Weekly student check-ins feed class-level and whole-school trends across six dimensions: Active, Resilient, Connected, Aware, Respected, Responsible.

📅

Recommended 30-week schemes

One click loads a hand-scaffolded 30-week SPHE plan per year group, age-appropriate with a balanced mix of all four strands. Coordinators can tweak, then assign teachers and send in the same flow.

📚

Full curriculum library

SPHE, PE, RE and CSPE learning outcomes across Junior Cycle, TY and Senior Cycle — with ADRA lesson plans, quizzes, keywords and media for every module.

🤖

AI reports & summaries

Generate per-student reports, class reports and whole-school AI summaries for the board — backed by real reflection data.

⏱️

400-hour wellbeing tracker

Track the DES Junior Cycle 400-hour requirement across PE, CSPE, Guidance, retreats and more. SPHE hours auto-calculated.

🎓

Student self-assessment

Students rate their own reflection before seeing the skill score — building metacognition and self-awareness over time.

🔒

GDPR by design

Row-level tenant isolation, PII redaction before AI calls, zero-retention headers, full data export and erasure flows.

Designed around three roles

What a textbook can’t do

A book delivers content one way. Skilly captures student voice, gives every pupil formative feedback, and turns it into whole-school evidence — the shift a textbook can’t make. Here’s what that means for each role.

🏫

Principal

Lead the AI shift — on your terms.

AI is reshaping education. Skilly turns that capability towards wellbeing: instead of a textbook on a shelf, your school captures real evidence of student voice through their own reflection and formative feedback — and delivers its whole-school wellbeing agenda with proof, not assumptions.

📊

Wellbeing Coordinator

Elevate SPHE from timetable filler to school priority.

Every SPHE and wellbeing programme in one place, with the structure to plan, track and evidence how your school actually delivers them. It turns wellbeing from a box on the timetable into a visible, measured part of school life — backed by data, not a shelf of unused books.

📝

SPHE Teacher

Hours back. Every resource ready. Students you can actually see.

Reflections scored in seconds, every lesson and resource ready to go, and a clearer view of how each student is really doing than a copybook could ever give you. The book stays closed; the conversation opens up.

Safeguarding

Concerns flagged before they escalate

Every student reflection is scanned by AI for indicators of bullying, self-harm, anxiety, abuse, and low mood. High-severity concerns email the safeguarding team straight away; lower-severity ones are logged in the coordinator’s queue for same-day review — no waiting for the next parent-teacher meeting.

Outside School Hours — Built-in Safeguards

Schools need clear boundaries. Skilly is designed with that in mind:

  • You choose what happens out of hours. The reflection is always saved and AI-scanned immediately, but each school sets its own hours: alerts can page the team straight away, or queue to the next school morning so staff are never expected to monitor in real time outside working hours.
  • Crisis signposting built in.Every student who submits a reflection — at any hour — is shown a calm “you could contact” panel: a trusted adult first, then Childline (1800 66 66 66), 50808 Crisis Text Line, Samaritans (116 123) and Pieta (1800 247 247) — so support is available 24/7 even when the school is closed.
  • Clear disclaimer at point of use. Students see a visible notice that Skilly is a school learning tool — not a counselling or emergency service — and are directed to emergency contacts if they need immediate help.
  • Aligned with Children First. The platform supports — but does not replace — your school’s Child Safeguarding Statement and reporting obligations under the Children First Act 2015. Skilly provides the digital paper trail; your DLP and Deputy DLP retain full responsibility for mandated reporting to Tusla.

💡 We recommend every school includes Skilly in its Acceptable Use Policy and Child Safeguarding Statement, with a clear note that the platform is not monitored outside school hours. Skilly provides a template paragraph for both documents during onboarding.

Built around the teacher

Skilly works with teachers, not over them.

The marking, the evidence, the paperwork — Skilly. The reflective question, the pastoral conversation, the read of the room — yours. The SPHE teacher is the teacher (coach)in the building — the one whose job is the skills AI can’t fake. Skilly’s job is to be more organised than a paper journal so you can spend the period coaching, not marking.

Skilly does

The teacher does

Proposes a 1–5 level on the NCCA rubric for every reflection.
Signs off, overrides, adds the human note that lands.
Scans every reflection for safeguarding signals and raises a flag.
Decides what to do about it. Skilly never contacts a parent or a pupil.
Drafts feedback in the right voice for Junior Cycle, Senior Cycle or L1LP.
Edits, releases or replaces. Schools can hold feedback for up to 72h while teachers review first.
Counts every reflection, flag and pulse for SSE / DEIS / inspection evidence.
Reads what pupils actually wrote. Knows the story behind the score.

FAQ

Common questions

How does the AI scoring work?+
When a student submits a reflection, Skilly's AI evaluates it against a 5-level rubric (Beginner → Expert) looking at personal depth, critical thinking, and self-awareness. It generates warm, formative feedback in 75–100 words. The teacher always has the final say — they can override any score with one click.
Can students see their skill score?+
Students see the effective score — which is the teacher's override if one has been set, or the skill score otherwise. They never see the raw skill score when a teacher has overridden it. Skill feedback never mentions the score number or level name directly.
Does it work with Junior Cycle, TY, and Senior Cycle?+
Yes — Skilly covers the full NCCA specification for Junior Cycle (4 strands, 39 skills), a dedicated Transition Year programme (20 modules covering empathy, resilience, financial literacy, body image, media literacy, consent, leadership, mental wellbeing and more), Senior Cycle (3 strands, 25 modules), and Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) Social Education — the six NCCA modules mapped to their official titles (per Circular 0012/2025). Plus a year-long Tutor (Wellbeing) Programme — 33 weeks of cycle-scaffolded prompts (Junior / TY / Senior variants) — that runs itself once a coordinator publishes the plan. Every learning outcome has pre-authored activities, reflection prompts, and ADRA lesson plans ready to use, in English and Irish.
Can I upload and store my own resources and links?+
Yes. Teachers can upload and store their own links, files, and resources alongside any lesson in the curriculum library. If your department already has worksheets, videos, or external links you use, you can attach them to the relevant learning outcomes so everything lives in one place.
What happens when a safeguarding concern is detected?+
Every reflection is scanned for indicators across 7 categories: bullying, self-harm, abuse disclosure, anxiety, low mood, peer pressure, and general wellbeing concerns. High-severity concerns email the safeguarding team (coordinator, admins and the pupil's class teacher) straight away, with an escalation chase if unacknowledged; lower-severity ones are logged in the coordinator's queue for same-day review. Every flag is tracked with an action log for your safeguarding records. A human always decides what happens next — Skilly never contacts a pupil or parent itself.
What happens if a student raises a concern outside school hours?+
Skilly is not a live monitoring tool — staff are never expected to be online outside working hours. The reflection is always saved and AI-scanned immediately, but each school sets its own hours and chooses what happens out of hours: alerts can page the team straight away, or queue to the next school morning (with the flag waiting at the top of the queue). Either way, at the point of submission the student is shown a calm 'you could contact' panel — a trusted adult first, then Childline (1800 66 66 66), 50808 Crisis Text Line, Samaritans (116 123) and Pieta (1800 247 247) — and an honest note that a teacher may not see this until school reopens, so they're never left waiting. A clear disclaimer reminds students that Skilly is a school learning tool, not an emergency service. We recommend schools reference Skilly in their Acceptable Use Policy and Child Safeguarding Statement — we provide template wording during onboarding.
Is Skilly GDPR compliant?+
Yes. Every school gets its own isolated data environment with row-level security. Student data is never shared across schools. AI calls use zero-retention headers, and PII is redacted before any AI processing. We provide full data export and erasure flows, plus a downloadable Data Processing Agreement.
Where is student data stored?+
All data is stored in Supabase (PostgreSQL) on EU servers. No student data leaves the EU. We do not sell or share data with any third party. AI calls go through Anthropic's API with zero-retention headers enabled.
How long does onboarding take?+
Skilly provides full setup and training for every school. We handle the environment configuration, user upload and class assignment so you don't have to. We also run a training session for your SPHE team and coordinator so everyone is confident from day one. Most schools are fully live within a single morning.
How does the licence work?+
The licence is annual and renewed each year. Student data is stored throughout their school cycle — so a 1st Year student's reflections, scores, and progress carry with them all the way through to 3rd Year (or 6th Year). When a student leaves, their data can be exported or erased under GDPR.
Can we fund Skilly through the Book Scheme?+
Yes. Skilly qualifies as a digital learning resource under the Department of Education's free schoolbooks and classroom resources scheme. Many schools fund their licence this way. We can provide an invoice formatted for your BOM if needed.
Is Skilly suitable for DEIS schools?+
Absolutely. Skilly is designed to work in shared computer rooms as well as 1-to-1 setups. It can be funded through DEIS grants, the School Completion Programme, or the Book Scheme. The structured SPHE delivery, safeguarding alerts, and wellbeing data support your DEIS Action Plan and give you ready-made evidence for WSE inspections and SSE.
